From late November until about May the peninsula runs on sunshine: reliable blue skies, dusty roads, smaller and cleaner waves, and the town's full social scene in motion. It's peak season — Christmas–New Year and Easter week book out months ahead, and March–April is the second big rush. Reserve lodging, 4x4s and quads early and expect peak prices.
The rainy season pattern is kind here: sunny mornings, an afternoon or evening downpour, and everything glowing green. Crowds thin, rates drop hard, and the surf gets bigger. September and October are the wettest and quietest months — some businesses take their annual break — while May–August is the sweet spot of green hills, warm sea and real swell.
Santa Teresa breaks year-round, so the question is what you want. December–April: smaller, cleaner, more consistent waves with offshore mornings — the learner and longboard season. May–November: the southern-hemisphere swell machine turns on and the beach breaks from Playa Carmen to Hermosa get size and push — this is when experienced surfers book their trips. Busiest and priciest: mid-December through Easter. Quietest: September–October, when you can have Playa Hermosa nearly to yourself. Best value-to-weather ratio: May, June and November — shoulder months with working waves, green hills and rooms well below February rates. Nomads and repeat visitors pick exactly those windows.
The main road is the town's weather report: dust clouds in the dry months, mud and puddles in the green season. A 4x4 or quad is worth it year-round and essential May–November if you plan to explore Mal País, the hilltop viewpoints or Montezuma. Dec–Feb: prime sun, learner waves, peak crowds and prices. Mar–Apr: hottest and driest, packed lineups at Playa Carmen. May–Jun: green hills, real swell, great value. Jul–Aug: sunny spells ("veranillo"), solid surf, family season. Sep–Oct: wettest and emptiest — big waves for those who want them. Nov: land at its greenest, rain fading, town waking up — the connoisseur's month.
De finales de noviembre hasta más o menos mayo, la península funciona a pura luz: cielos azules confiables, caminos polvorientos, olas más pequeñas y limpias, y toda la escena social del pueblo en marcha. Es temporada alta — Navidad–Año Nuevo y Semana Santa se llenan con meses de anticipación, y marzo–abril es el segundo gran pico. Reserve hospedaje, 4x4 y cuadraciclos temprano y espere precios de temporada alta.
El patrón de lluvias aquí es amable: mañanas soleadas, un aguacero en la tarde o noche, y todo brillando en verde. Bajan las multitudes, bajan fuerte las tarifas y sube el surf. Septiembre y octubre son los meses más lluviosos y tranquilos — algunos negocios toman su descanso anual — mientras que mayo–agosto es el punto dulce de colinas verdes, mar tibio y marejada de verdad.
Santa Teresa rompe todo el año, así que la pregunta es qué busca usted. Diciembre–abril: olas más pequeñas, limpias y consistentes con mañanas offshore — la temporada de aprender y de longboard. Mayo–noviembre: se enciende la máquina de marejadas del hemisferio sur y los beach breaks de Playa Carmen a Hermosa agarran tamaño y fuerza — cuando los surfistas con experiencia hacen su viaje. Lo más lleno y caro: mediados de diciembre a Semana Santa. Lo más tranquilo: septiembre–octubre, cuando Playa Hermosa puede ser casi suya. La mejor relación clima-precio: mayo, junio y noviembre — meses de hombro con olas que funcionan, colinas verdes y habitaciones muy por debajo de las tarifas de febrero.
La calle principal es el reporte del clima del pueblo: nubes de polvo en los meses secos, barro y pozas en la temporada verde. Un 4x4 o cuadraciclo vale la pena todo el año y es esencial de mayo a noviembre si piensa explorar Mal País, los miradores o Montezuma.
